FRUIT EXPORT TRADE

LAST SHIPMENTS HOME BEST EXPORT SEASON EXPERIENCED. The New Zealand fruit export seanon is over, and the last two boats bearing consignments, the Athenic and Raranga, have reached London, and their fruit is on the market. The reports were not. very favourable, and there is evidently a. large quantity of fruit on the English market from other parts of the world, and although the prices cabled for the later keeping varieties are reasonably satisfactory, it Iqoks as if the others: will' not return much, if any profit! It is a little too soon to say definitely what the returns will be, ’ and prices may pick up a little towards the end of this week. Taking the season all round, the prices have been good, in some instances very good, a “Times” representative wae officially informed yesterday. Growers will have had a better season from the export point of view than they have ever before experienced, and will on the whole receive a good return. Mr W. T. Attwood, of the New Zealand Fruitgrowers’ Federation, is in England at -the present time, and the Horticultural Department is taking advantage of the fact to try certain experiments in the carriage of fruit, and he is to report directly to the department upon the questions submitted by them. From that report it ' is expected to derive a great deal of valuable information for future guidance. The questions apply to maturity, colour, packing and cases.
