KARITANE APPEAL
SOME COMING ATTRACTIONS. 4 \ .
In .connection with the Karitane Hospital Fund Appeal, which has so far produced approximately £B7OO in contributions, a number of popular events to add to the receipts of the organisers are in course of preparation. Two have already been announced and the arrangements are being , completed. On Saturday, August Bth. the Terrace Congregational Choir will present the concert version of Edward Ger.man’s tuneful light opera *’’Merrie England,” a work‘which, to the extent of some of its solos and other items, is quite well known, and which is sure to be warmly appreciated by admirers of the popular English composer. The choir is under the conductorship of Mr Len Barnes, whose experience in opera abroad fully qualifies him for the work of producing the entertainment. The choir will number 46 voices, and the soloists will be Mrs Alice Harris (soprano), Miss Lily Mackie (contralto), Mr Arthur Coe (tenor), and Mr E. A. Bradshaw (bass). Mias Gwen Wing and Mr A. Mill will preside at the two pianos which will supply the instrumental music. Tile opera will be performed in tii® Town Hall, .find it is expected that there will be a very large attendance. The second benefit entertainment tc be anticipated is the 1925 movie ball which is to he held in the Town Ha'i on September 23rd. This hall was a great success last year, and promises to be even more brilliant and attractive this year. The organisers are snaring no pains to make it a memorable event, and they have decided that the Karitane Hospital Fund shall benefit to the limit of the returns.
