STEAMER ON FIRE
i ENGINE-ROOM DAMAGED INSURANCES NOT AVAILABLE. Per Press Association. DAIIGAVILLE, July 20. At an early hour this morning a fire was discovered in the engine-room of the small steapier Pioneer, belonging to the Northern Wairoa Dairy Company. Fortunately, there was a deck hand on board at the time, who immediately gave the alarm to the fire brigade which turned out in doublequick time and extinguished the fire, but not before it had done considerable damage to the engine-room and men’s rooms on the boat. The amount of the insurances is not available. It is expected it will he some days before the steamer will be able to resume running. .Meanwhile, a standby steamer owned by the company is doing the run on the river.
