LONGWOOD BOWL TOURNAMENT DEFEATS SHIMIZU AND HARADA HAWKES BEATEN BY HARADA By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received July 18, 5.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, July 17. Playing in the Longwood Bowl tournament at Brookline, Harada (Japan) defeated J. B. Hawkes (Australia) in a spectacular five-set match, in which physical condition was the vital factor. The score was B—6, 2—6, I—6, 9—7, 6—4. G. Zi. Patterson (Australia) smothered Zenzo Shimizu (Japan), 6 —3, 6—2, 6—o. Patterson will play Harada to-morrow in the final for the Longwood Bowl, which is destined to leave the United States for the first time since its institution in 1891. In the semi-final of the doubles Patterson and Hawkes defeated Peabody Gardner and Henry Guild, qf Boston, 6—4, 6—3, 2—6, 6—2. Patterson and Hawkeß announce that their next appearance will he at the Seabright tournament. New Jersey, beginning on July 2/th. From there they will proceed to Montreal for the Davis Cup semi-finals. NEW YORK. July 18. In the Davis Cup match in the Anerican zone between Spain and Mexico, Spain is leading by two games to nil. The results were as follow : v Manuel Alonzo (Spain) defeated Claud Butlin (Mexico), 6—2, 6—l, 6—2. Eduardo Flaquer (Spain) defeated Ignacio Barbollo (Mexico), 6—2, 6—4, 6—4.
