In consequence of an anonymous let. ter the police visited the chateau of Charles Soler, litterateur and explorei, at Chateney-en-France, Pointoise, and found Madame Soler lying in the topmost room, tho door of which was chained and padlocked. She was shockemaciated, and told the police a pitiful story. She alleged that she had been confined for two years by her husband, who demanded that she should make her will in his favour. Eventually she yielded under threats. She now charges her husband with attempting to kill her by slow starvation. The woman oertainly appeared a living skeleton. She saw no - <me_ but her husband’s secretary. Mademoiselle de la Plango, who unlocked the door to the police only—as it is alleged—under protest. Madame Soler was taken to hospital, and her husband and mademoiselle are charged with sequestration and violence.
