Mr and Mrs Orbell, who have been motoring in Taihape and Wanganui, have gone on to the Wairarapa, en route for Wellington. Miss Best is travelling with them. Miss A. Barton (Featherston) is paying a round oi visits in Canterbury.

Mrs Thomson (Palmerston North) is visiting her mother, Mrs Krull, in Wanganui.

Mrs A. Gray has gone to New Plymouth for a holiday. Miss Betty Allen (New. Plymouth) was here lately for a short stay. Mrs C. P. Brown (Wanganui) is visiting Wellington. Mrs R'. W. Holmes has gone to New Plymouth, where she is the guest of Mrs Newton. King. Miss Ruth Hawken (Hawera) is off shortly to England for a trip. Mr N. Hawken goes w'ith her.

•Mr and Mrs H. C. White (Te Ma. hanga, Hawke’s Bay), who have been travelling in the South Island for some weeks, are .at'present in Christchurch.

Dr and Mrs Milne, Temuka, Canterbury, are shortly going to Otaki to live.

Mrs and Miss Fox (Hawke’s Bay), who were recently in Wellington, hare gone out to Mount Cook.

Mrs Norman Beetham (Wairarapa) is at Mount Cook with a party. . Miss Hughina MacDonald (Invercargill) is making a stay in Christchurch on her way home from Hawke’s Bay. Her engagement was recently announced to Mr Hugh Webb, of Assam.

Miss Phillippa 'Nairn (Hawke’s Bay) is visiting Mount Cook. ' The engagement is announced of Marv Valentine Loftus (Molly), eldest daughter of Captain and Sirs L. T. Lucas. Kingsgate, Thanet, England to Donald Willett, third son of the late Mr J. H. Ehsor, of Rydal Downs, Okuku, and of Mrs J. H. Ensor, Cashmere Hills. Christchurch.

Mrs Clifford Thompson (Dannovirke) is paying visits in Canterbury.

During their bicycle trip across the south and east of France last autumn, Mr and Mrs J. A. Neame (Wanganui) went from Royan (on the Bay of Biscay) by Anzouieme, Toulouse, and Cascassonne to Narbonne (on the Mediterranean). and thence to Arles, Marseilles, and Diine to :Nice. They spent 6dme weeks in Northern Italy, and were at Chamonix for the winter sports, and at San Remo, during the spring months. Following three weeKe in Paris. Mr and Mrs Neame. spent a month in Jersey on their way to England. Mr Neame hopes to attend tho Liberal Summer School. held at Cambridge at the end of July, and in August, with Mrs Neame, to make a cruise to Norway and the Baltic. Mr and Mrs Neame are ardent gardeners, and keenly interested in new and rare plants. Bicycling enables them ■to see and study many beautiful varieties which often pass unnoticed. . The engagement is announced of Miss Eila Perirhyh, eldest daughter of the late Mr C.. C. Hutton, and Mrs Hutton; of St! John’s Hill, Wanganui, to Mr T. R. Wright, elder son of Mr and Mrs F. R! At the last meeting of the New Plymouth Plunket Society mention was made of the certificate of merit awarded at the baby competition organised by the National Baßy Week Council, London, to little Dorothy Preston, of Havelock North, a Plunket baby, and grand-daugoter of Mrs Courtney, or New Plymouth. The secretary was instructed to convey to Mrs Courtney the congratulations of the'society, With the request that she forward them to Dorothy’s mother. The nurses reported having visited in a country district a baby 11 months oldi weighing only 111 b, ’ and as the conditions in the home through overwork and ' illness did : not tend • to help this child they brought it into New Plymouth for .treatment. After a short discussion it was unanimously decided that the society pay for the keep of the haby fmtil the nurses consider it fit to be returned to its mothei'. The president mentioned this was not the first instance of its kind, but in other instances members of the committee had individually paid for the care and keep of such babies.
