NORTHLAND TUNNEL

TRAMWAY DEFERRED MILK STATEMENT TO-NIGHT.

In reply to questions submitted by a “Times” representative the Mayor, Mr C. J. B. Norwood, agreed that while the idea originally was to run a tramway through the Northland tunnel that part of the programme had been deferred for the present, as the immediate policy of the council was in the direction of developing the suburban areas by introducing ’bus services. In the event of a tramway being decided upon it would be necessary to obtain a certificate for the tunnel from the Public Works Department, hut to steps had yet been taken in that direction.

Subsequently the pressman spoke to Councillor W. H. Bennett in reference to the milk supply* and no information was forthcoming beyond the fact that certain developments had taken place, and he proposed to make an important statement of the position at the meeting of the City Council this evening.
