Before the war the Turkish navy was being rehabilitated by British experts. As early os 1909 Admiral Gamble, had undertaken the reorganisation of the Ottoman Fleet. When the war broke out two Turkish battleships were being constructed by British firms. . These were commandeered by the British Government in August, 1914.
