Mr R. McCallum was yesterday elected chairman of the Victoria University College Council. Dr R, *l. Makgill (Health Department) arrived in Wellington from Auckland yesterday on departmental business. Dr M. H. Watt, Director-General tf Public Hygiene, left Wellington lasi night on an official visit to tne Thames district. Air A. A. Gellatly, of Messrs J. H. Bethunc and Co., Wellington, who has been in Sydney for the past two months, returned by the Maunganui. Sir George Clifford was last evening unanimously elected to the position of president of the New Zealand Racing Conference Reference was made to Sir George’s 30 years’ connection with the conference, and his efforts in the interests of the turf were praised by members of the conferetwfe. Mr W. E. Bidwill expressed pleasure at Sir George’s recovery from his illness, and voiced ths hope that he would be spared to serve the conference for many years to come.
