"WANT OF RESPECT”

LATIN-AMEfcICANS STUNG MR, KELLOGG’S BLUNT STATEMENT ARGENTINA JVITH MEXICO By Telegraph.—Press Assn.—Copyright Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. (Received June 19, 5.5 p.m.) BUENOS AYRES, June 18. The United States attitude toward Mexico, as expressed by Mr F. W. Kellogg, Secretary of State, in his recent declaration, was condemned in a statement issued by the Latin-American Union, which says ~e Secretary’s statements show “that want of respect for the sovereignty of onr peoples which is characteristic of White House, whatsoever be the Pan-American principles which it' pretends to support regarding equality of nations.” The statement continues: “The Argentine people cannot remain indifferent to the outrage inflicted upon a brother country.” Mr Kellogg declared: that the Government of Mexico was on trial before the world, and that the United States would continue to support the Mexican Government only so long as it protected the lives of the citizens of the United States and complied with international obligations. To this the Mexican President replied: “If the Government of Mexico, as affirmed, is now on its trial before the world, such is the case with the United States Government as well is those of other countries. But if it is to be understood that Mexico is cn trial in the guise of defendant, my Government absolutely rejects with energy such an imputation, which in essence would mean only an insult.”
