MEETING OF EXECUTIVE. At a meeting of the executive council of the Competitions Society, Mr J. W. Carr presided over a good attendance of members. A suggestion was received that silver placques mounted on oak frames be given as chamuionship awards in place of gold i odals. The suggestion was approved, hut could not be adopted for this year, as the prize-list states gold medals for the championships. It was agreed that ihe list of folk songs published in the syllabus was inserted as a guide to competitors, and other songs will be accepted, providing they are genuine folk 6ongs. Two offers to donate gold medais in the dancing section were reluctantlv declined, as the offers came to hand too late for insertion in the syllabus. It was resolved that the Rev. Fielden Taylor’s committee he given permission to sell sweets during the competitions, subject do the approval of the Town Hall authorities. Mr W. H. Tustin was appointed as hon. solicitor to the society. The M)cn>. tary reported that great interest teas being taken in this year’s festival, the demand for syllabus being in excess of the demand in previous years, and application for copies had been received from all parts of the Dominion, and a record entry should result. As the school holidays will terminate one week efter the commencement of the competitions, the Education Board have kindly consented to grant school children leave of absence from their sciico] duties to enable them to eompete. Entries rinse on .Saturday. June 27th. ami syllabus and entry forms are obtainable at all music warehouses.
