S.S. MARAROA

INSPECTION IN WELLINGTON “PERFECTLY CLEAN.” REFUTATION TO RECENT STRICTURES. Apropos of the recent strictures made to the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce with regard to the cleanliness of the Mararoa, on the Press Association message coming to hand on Tuesday laßt, the secretary of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce visited the ship at the request of the Union Steam Ship Company, and found the vessel scrupulously clean in all departments. Yesterday, Mr D. J. McGowan, president of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, and Mr J. R. Simpson, a member of the executive of the Associated Chambers of Commerce, also visited the ship. All parts of the steamer were examined, and they state unhesitatingly that when seen by them she was in a perfectly clean condition. The examination included bathrooms and lavatories which had been the particular subject of the comment. As regards seating accommodation on the deck, there were seats running the whole length of the saloon deck on both sides, accommodating at least 160 persons, all under a permanent shelter deck. They were at a loss to understand the report that had been made to the Dunedin Chamber of Commerce.
