TO DISCUSS FUSION
REFORM AND LIBERAL PARTIES CONFERENCE ON JUNF, IBth. Arrangements have been completed by the leaders of the Reform and Liberal-Labour parties to hold a meeting of representatives from each side to discuss the fusion proposal. The conference is to take' place on June 18th. The suggestion of Mr T. M. Wilford that the date of the conference should be earlier than tho 18th, which he considered too near the opening of Parliament, was discussed by Cabinet, and subsequently the Hon. ,T. G. Coates announced that he could not agree tp an alteration. After; giving the matter further consideration, Mr Wilford replied:— “As you state jn your letter of yesterday that ‘it will be impossible for Roum of your representatives to be in Wellington before June IBth,’ I agree to that date.” Each side will be represented by four members. The leaders have agreed not to take part in the preliminary conference.
