CRIMEAN TRENCHES
General Sir George Higginson, known as the “Father of the Grenadiers,” who will be 99 in June, addressed the annual meeting of the Grenadier Guards Comrades’ Association at Chelsea Barracks. Sir George referred to the days when he first joined the Grenadiers, and his experiences in the trendies during the Crimean War. When speaking of his age, at the conclusion of his speech, he said he would soon be “going West,” a Mlrm often heard during the war. “I bid you all farewell rather than good-bye. God bless .you all,” lie said.
