UP FORTY FEET

OMANAWA RIVER RISES Per Press Association. TAURANGA, May 23. An easterly gale developed yesterday morning, with exceptionally heavy rain, resulting :n a heavy flood in Omanawa River. Debris was brought down, blocking the intake tunnel and causing a temporary stoppage of the electricity supply from 3.30 to 7.30 at MoLaren’s Falls, where the new electricity works are nearing completion. The river rose nearly 40ft in under three hours. The main dam is just completed, the last concrete being put m three days ago. The diversion ot the tunnel and scour valve in the dam being unable to carry the water, a lake of over 100 million gallons was piled behind the dam before the water could go over the spillway. The engineer, Mr Mandjno, reports that the dam stood the exceptional test without injury of any kind. No damage is Reported in the immediate district. The weather is now fine.
