THE CITY SCORES
IN CHANGE-OVER WORK. WHEN OWNERS PAY. The city Is saving money on the electrical “change-over” cost. At the time that the City Council approved the scheme for the conversion of Wellington to the hither voltage the Mayor (Mr R. A. Wright) stated that “by the time that the centre of the city was to he done it would be found that ordinary renewals and the replacement of old buildings with new had left little for the city to pay In completion of the conversion.” The events of even the past few months have shown that his prophecy easily may be bof-ne out. Rapid building and a great deal of interior refitting have made big changes already. This work involves re-winng the buildings, and the cost of this has to be borne by the owners, no proportion being a drain on the civic fund. At the present rate of progress, the new and the old systems of electricity will be running- side by side for many years to come, and before the suburban work is completed much of the central area ot Wellington will have been changed over and taking the new power supply from Mangahao.
