MINISTERIAL The Hon. A. D. McLeod (MinfsfiW for Lands) leaves Wellington on Wednesday next for the East Coast diatrict. He expects to he away about ten days. Sir James Parr (Minister for Justics and Education), who is at present in Auckland, is expected back in Wellington about tho end of this week. The Hon. J. G. Cbatee (Minister for Public Works and Railways) left Wellington on Saturday for the Hawke’s Bav district. He is expected hack on Friday next. Mr G. D. Greenwood left Wellington for Christchurch by the ferry 6teamer at the end of the week. Mr E. A. Shrimpton, chief post ami telegraph engineer, arrived in Christ church from Wellington on Saturday. Mr W. J. Hunter has been elected president, and Mr M. J. Gresson vicepresident of tho Canterbury Law Society. Mr H. J. Mncalister. LL.B., of Auckland. has been appointed Crown Solicitor at Invercargill, in place of his father, Mr W. Macalister. who has resigned. Sir Herbert Nicholis. Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Tasmania, is to bo the guest of the New Zealand Government on his visit to the Dominion this week. J Mr IV. Winchester, who haa been manager of the Hunterville branch of the Bank of New Zealand for a number - of years, has been promoted to the position of relieving manager. A communication received from Sir „ Ernest Rutherford states definitely that Lady Rutherford and he will visit Christchurch at the end of September. , 4 His principal object is to see his parents in Taranaki. He will stay in New Zealand six or eight weeks. Mr Wilfred A. Dowd, LL.B., of the ' Christchurch Lands and Deeds Office, has been admitted as a barrister and solicitor by the Chief Justice (Sir Ro- . bert Stout) on the motion of Mr T. Cleary. Fraser, South Island organiser and lecturer of the Sheldon Institute, was farewelled by past and present students on the occasion of his leaving on a trip to England and America. Mr J. Petterd, on behalf of those present, presented the guest with a travelling rug. Mr Fraser, in reply, said that he parted from his students and colleagues with regret. Julius, Primate and Archbishop of New Zealand, was farewelled at a meeting of the Board of Governors of the McLean Institute, at which the following resolution was carried: —“That tlie board wishes to place on record its appreciation of the valuable services rendered by his Grace Archbishop Julius as a member of the board since its inception in 1908. It extends to him every good wish for the future and trnsts that he may be long spared to take an active part in all things which make for the well-being and interests of this community.” Mr Flesher, Mayor, expressed regret that His Grace was leaving the board, and spoke of his great work during his term of office. Other members also spoke of the Archbishop’s splendid work. In reply, the Archbishop said that he had always been interested in the work of the board, and hoped that he would be able to carry on for many years in an unofficial capacity.
