PUBLICITY ACTIVITIES SPLENDID PROGRESS MADE WITH EXTENSIVE CAMPAIGN. MINISTER GIVES DETAILS. i The Minister in Charge of Publicity (Hon. G. J. Anderson) supplies some very interesting particulars concerning the activities of the Publicity Office and the newly-formed Publicity Board. It is confidently believed • that a continuation of this forward policy of advertising will give excellent results in the near future. PHOTOGRAPHIC! DISPLAYS. The Minister states that during the past three months some 8000 booklets, 2300 photographs, 50 enlargements, and 400 lantern slides Have been distributed overseas, together with 5470 ft of cinematograph film, whilst 8000 ft is; now ready for dispatch. During the period, 12,000 ft of negative was secured and 6000 ft of positive loaned for showing for lecture purposes. The department’s agents in various parts of the world hove been authorised to frame photographs for display in hotels, shipping companies’ offices, etc., and very gratifying results are being received as to the willingness of hotelkeepers to display our photographs. In Sydney, for instance, attractive displays have been made in the Hotel Australia, the Bondi, Sydney, and Metropole hotel, by which means a large number ot the travelling public will he reached. Arrangements have also been uadcv to provide cabinets for New Zealand literature for these hotels. AT HOME AND ABROAD. The Publicity Officer in London is*busily engaged in the preparation of newspaper articles for the English Press, and to assist him to meet the increasing demand, large numbers of articles are being written nere and dispatched to London. The High Commissioner reports that over 100 lectures on New Zealand weTe given during the last quarter of last year. As New Zealand’s 'fishing attracts a large number of anglers from overseas, arrangements are now in hand to procure several swordfish and mako shark heads from the fishing-grounds at Mayor Island, in addition to which a | number of large trout will be obtained and mounted, for the purpose of displaying on the Canadian Pacific Railway and other places for view by tourists. As regards the Publicity Board, proposals are now on foot for the launching of a poster campaign, and with this object in view, 2000 posters of various subjects have already been dispatched to England, Australia, and America. Addresses were made to the hoard during the last few days by Miss N. Scanlan and Mr Will Lawson, both of whom have recently. returned from an extended tour of America. Very useful suggestions as to the best method of reaching ! the American public were made by both speakers and future publications will bo modelled on the lines suggested. Mr Lawson said that the two latest folders issued here are quite as good as any seen by him in the United States. NEW PUBLICATIONS. ' There are several new publications in course of preparation, large numbers of which will be required for distribution among members of the American fleet. It has been suggested that literature, lantern slides, and film be distributed amongst the ships at Honolulu, to allow officers and men to gain i some knowledge of the Dominion be- ; fore arrival here.
