LIFE-SAVING
WEEK-END COMPETITIONS. Several important local life-saving competitions were conducted at LyaiT Bay on Saturday, when the Novice Cup went to Lyall Bay, Maranui securing the Land Drill Cup and the Otaki Surf Shield. There was a southerly breeze blowing and a suitable surf was running. Lyall Bay, holders of the Nelson Shield (Dominion trophy) successfully competed against Worser Bay in the Novice Cup. The team was; M. Campbell (captain), H. Winstanly, Ryan, C. Claridge. F. Thomas, F. Mollier, B. Muller, and G. Canhan. In the Land Drill Cufi and Otaki shield for surf work. Maranui was opposed by Lyall Bay anti Worser Bay in the first section, and by Lyall' Bay in the second. The displays were all of a good standard, and the competitions proved mo6t interesting to a large bodv of spectators. Maranui’s team was E. Hughes (captain), J-. Sleeman, 3. McHardy, A Claridge, V. Fletcher, J. Alexander, Whisker, and C. Eversleigfa.
