COLONIAL SECRETARY

VISIT TO NEW ZEALAND. NO OFFICIAL ADVTCtE YET RECEIVED. So far as New Zealand is concerned, no official advice of any proposed visit to the Dominion on the part of the Secretary of State for tile Colonies (Mr L. C. M. S. Amery) has been received. It is well known, of course, that on every occasion on which the Prime, Minister (Mr Massey) has been attending Imperial Conferences he has stressed 1 the importance of visits to the overseas countries of the Empire by public men at Home, in order that they might gain a better understanding of the potentialities and the development that is going on in the dominions Just previous to the recent visit of ’Lord Maclay, Mr Massey stated that he often thought that the importance of a first-hand knowledge of the various countries of the Empire, such as could only be obtained by personal visits and intercourse, was not sufficiently appreciated by public men at Home. “I liave never lost an opportunity.” he remarked. “of stressing this point on the occasion of my several visits to England in recent years.”
