FRIGHTFUL MENACE IN INDIA. FOOD CENTRES THRONGED. (Svdnev “Siin" Cable.) CALCUTTA. March 19. Three million rupees from the public is being sought in Bengal alone as the nucleus of an all-India fund to 6tanip out leprosy. There are somewhere about a Quarter ot a million lepers in India, who aij not segregated, and form a continuflfi menace to the healthy population. In Calcutta the market and othflS? food centres are daily thronged witlb beggars in an advanced stage of leprosy. Unlike Ceylon, there are no means at present of dealing adequately with this scourge. The appeal is headed by the Viceroy.
