. IMPORTANT DEVELOPMENTS EXPECTEB The Wellington waterfront dispute, which has resulted in spasmodic hold-up? of various vessels during the past week or so, took a definite turn on Saturday, the employers deciding to make no calls for labour.
The decision of the shipowners followed the action of the watersiders on Friday in refusing to work the Waimana, and the position has now arisen that when the vessels which engaged labour prior to Friday finish operations the whole port will be at a standstill.
If is understood that the ferry boats will not be affected by the decision.
life coasting steamers Waverley and Hawera, which brought a carero of frozen meat from Patea for transhipment to the Waimana, and which arrived here pn Fridayand Saturday respectively, returned,to Patea on Saturday without discharging their respective cargoes.
Important developments are expected to-day, and a meeting of shipowners is to be held this morning to consider the questipn> of ensuring that the work of the port ( will proceed-unhampered.
