The hoiise is Situated on the Main South road, near Sockburn, and as it was an old one itburned verf-quickly.. ■ Any effort made, to save the house was hampered by the lack Of fire-fighting-appliances The stables at the* rear of the, building were in danger. of destruction, but fortunately the Wind kept tho 1 fldnies away ‘ from' them." Mr A. house nearby- was also saved. - -Mrs Bryce had gone into the-city earlier in the evening, and it is sl id that she left" a* fird'.burning in the kitchen stpve. Soon after 7.80 o’clock smoke was seen coming out of the kitolion windows. Mr Bryce was in a whars in the rear of the house; and immediately, he rushed to see if- lie could save (he building, but the flames were too strong by this time. ' » The house was insured for -6500 and;, the furniture-for £2OO, both in the South British Fire Office. ~
Mr Bryce has owned Enfield Lodge tor some yeUrsbefore that it was occupied bv Mr D. J. Price.
