Air Frank Hodges, a national delegate at the conference of the Miners' Federation at Blackpool, explained what he meant by his speech on February 3rd. He denied that he spoke of a five years’ truce, in the sense of maintaining the existing state of affairs. He advocated peace on the coalfields, so that an attempt might be made to -adjust “the industry to world conditions. Air Hodges was assailed by other miners for declaring (allegedly) that the nationalisation of mines proposal was dead.
