THE HURUNUI. The New Zealand Shipping Company has been advised that tho Hurunui was expected to arrive at New Plymouth at 6 o’clock last evening from Adelaide to commence loading for Home. The vessel is later to take in cargo at Wanganui, Lyttelton, Tokomaru Bay, Hicks Bay and Wellington. \ ’ MAHIA TO COMPLETE. To complete loading the Shaw, Savill and Albion liner MaMa is now expected at Wellington on Wednesday next fiom Wanganni, and is scheduled to sail, finally from here on March Bth for London, via Monte Video and Tenerifle. BLUE STAR LINE. There 18 reason for believing that the Blue Star Line fleet of refrigerated steamers will shortly change hands (says the Londoni correspondent of the Christchurch "Press"). The tonnage involved is 150,000 tons, and thus the transaction would involve a sum of over .£2,000,000. The market value of second-hand tonnage just now is rather low, and a wellknown shipping company has been able quite recently to acquire some very useful shipping on favourable terms, but vessels fitted with refrigerated machinery .are-in; a class by themselves, and ordinary market conditions do not apply. These 17 steamers belonging to the Union Cold Storage Company, and managed by tho Blue Star Line, would probably fetch about £ls per ton on the open market; and probably the deal will go through on this basis. Names like Furness, Withy and the Royal Mail Steam Packet Company have been mentioned in connection with this transaction, but it , may be that a newly registered company formed, with the title of the River Plate, British and Continental Meat Company (Ltd.), to operate in the River Plate trade is also interested. This company was formed lately, and the names of the directors have not yet been disclosed. It has borrowing powers up ‘to £2,500,060. The meat truue from the Argentine is improving. . The exports of chilled and frozen beef from Argentina for the ten months ended October 31st last amounted to 8,000,000 quarters, which gives about 10 million for the year, and this is nearly double the figures for 1923.
