CHECK ON TRADES UNIONS. ' CABINET’S OPINION. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association(Received February 27, 11.15 p.m.) LONDON, February 27. The ‘Daily Express” says ( alii net will probably decide to-day against the expediency of Air F. A. AlcQu isten’s Political Levy Bill, on account of the serious differences among the vatives concerning such a measure. The Alinistry, however, will probably institute its own inquiry into tho Trade Union Act, with a view u> securing the protection of minorities.
The Government has been strongly pressed to support tho hill, which is designed to prevent trade unions from utilising their ordinary funds for political purposes. Prominent Lalxjur leaders have declared the bill a challenge to the whole trades union movement, and an attempt to destroy the Labour Party.
