OPERATION ON STEAMER

STEWARD’S LIFE SAVED. LONG STANDING WAR INJURY. During the voyage ,of the Aorangi one of the saloon stewards named Stephen William Harvey, was taken seriously ill. suffering from a shrapnel wound which he sustained in the head during the war. The ship's surgeon, Dr. Learoyd, sat up with his patient for several night?, and in the early stages of the illness it was feared that Harvey would not live. Dr. Learoyd finally decided to operate. The operation was most successful and Harvey made a rapid recovery.

Seen. on arrival of the Aorangi in Wellington yesterday Mr Harvey told a “Times” reporter that he never felt better in his life, thanks to Dr. Learoyd’s unremitting attention and skill.

“He succeeded in a few days where fhonths, nay years of treatment elsewhere failed to bring mo idiot,” he added. “I am better than ever I was,” Mr Harvey concluded—thanks to the “doc.”
