HARBOUR CHARGES

SUBSTANTIAL REDUCTIONS. THE NEW SCHEDULE. Reductions in. charges which will give a rebate of approximately £20,000 a year were approved by the Wellington Hambour Board at its meeting on Wednesday. The reductions* to which effect will be given as soon as new regulations can be framed', are as follow: (1) 25 per cent, off outward’ wharfage on export cargo, reducing the existing charge oh general goods from 2s to Is 6d' per ton: on wool from .Is to 9d per bale; and on flax from 9d to 8d per hale. (2) .14 per cent, off railway wharf charges outwards, reducing the existing rate on general goods from; Is 2d to Is per ton; on wool from 9d to Bdl per bale; and on flax from 6d to 6d per -bale. (3) II per cent, off transhipment charges on general goods, reducing the rate from 4s Gd to 4s per ton. (4) The maximum cartage rate on transhipment cargo is reduced from 2s per tom to Is per ton. (5) The harbour improvement rate on general cargo is reduced by 16i per oent., .making the new rate, is 3d; per ton ini place of 1b Gd; on coal it is reduced by 25 per cent; and on fuel oil 33 per cent, is allowed.
