ONSLOW AFFAIRS

HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY. AUTUMN SHOW ABANDONED. The usual monthly meceting of the executive committee of the Onslow Horticultural and Beautifying Society was held on Wednesday evening to make final arrangements for the society’s autumn show on March 7th. Owing, however, to the embargo on public gatherings of .children un-der the age of 10 years, tlio committee decided to abandon the exhibition, this year. The committee, realising the disappointment that would be occasioned, greatly regretted the necessity for this step. The resignation of Mr X. .D. Hoggett (hon. secretary), who is ‘leaving the district, was accepted with regret; and Mr N. Jack was appointed secretary pro torn. The .1. A, Plimmer rose bowl was awarded to Mrs F. A. Blyth, as the member gaining most points for the season. It was announced that the president’s trophy for the vegetable section is now available for competition, and a keen contest for it is expocted. In view of the abandonment of the autumn show, tfie committee decided to enlarge, as far as possible, the chrysanthemum exhibition, to be hold on May 2nd; and the endeavour to secure on that occasion an interesting display of nil classes of fruit, flowers, vegetables and home products. The hope was expressed, that in this way some compensation might bo made for the disappointment unavoidably occasioned by giving up the autumn show.
