MINISTERIAL The Hon. G. J. Anderson (Minister Mines. Marine and Labour) returned to Wellington by the New Plymouth express last night. The Hon. A. D. McLeod (Minister for, Lands) leaves Wellington on Monday j night for Picton. where he will receive; deputations in the evening and then proceed to Blenheim. The Minister will inspect the Erina Settlement, Blenheim* on Tuesday morning, receive deputations in the evening, and leave early next morning for Seddon, Ward, Kekerangu* and Kaikoura. whore he will inspect Andrew’s property in the lAte afternoon and receive deputations in the evening. On Thursday he loaves for Cheviot and Christchurch, and will inspect the Lincoln Agricultural College on Friday. He leaves Christchurch early on Saturday morning for Fairlie, where will receive deputations in the evening; and the following day he proceeds to the Hermitage. On Monday, March 9th, the Minister Will visit Kurow and Oamaru, remaining at Oamaru over the .Tuesday; and on Wednesday he will visit Waimate, St. Andrews and Tirnaru. On Thursday he visits the Temuka district; and, leading Temuka early on Friday, March 13th. for Ashburton and district, ho will proceed thence to Lceston and Lyttelton, catchiilg the ferry steamer at the latter place and arriving back in Wellington on the morning of Saturday, March 14th-

Mr W. T. Tregartfca, stationmaster at Napier, hae been promoted to assistant district traffic manager at Christchurch, and Mr H. C. Guinness, chief clerk, Ohakune, has been promoted to chief clerk in the same office. Mr J. J. Lewthwaite was presented by the members and adherent© of the Petone Baptist Church with a Morris chair. Mr Lewthwaite has been choirmaster of the church since its inception, some 25 years ago, but has now resigned on account of ill-health.

The Returned Soldiers* Association, of Palmerston North, has decided that Padre Walls, of Winton, be again asked to conduct the Anzac service at Palmerston North, and*that Padres G. A. Brown and H. T. Peat also be asked to take part in the service.

Mr George Moore, who has been stationmaster at CartertonWor the past seven years has received notice of his Promotion and transfer to Hamilton, and will leave to take up tfis new duties to-morrow. Mr W. J. Barratt, of Upper Hutt, has been appointed to succeed Mr Moore.

Councillor W. J. Gaudin attended his last meeting, of the Wellington City Council last evening, as he. with Mrs Gaudin. is proceeding on a pleasure trip to England and the Continent. The Mayor (Mr R. A. Wright) extended to Councillor Gaudin the best wishes of tbo council and their hopes that he would have a good trip and a safe return.

His Excellency the Governor-General has been pleased to approve of the award of the colonial auxiliary forces officers* decoration to Major G. W. Cockroft, the Hawke's Bay Regiment, and Major R. Noble-Adams, M. 8., New Zealand Medi« cal Corpc; and of the colonial auxiliary forces lonjpservice medal to Major F. C Soar, Regiment of New Zealand Artillery.

Mr James McArthur, who, for the past 16 years, has been connected with the engineer's staff of the North Canterbury Hospital Board, is retiring. Mr McArthur was only resigning on account of bis advancing years. The board vas recommended by the finance committee to grant him six months* leave of absence on full pay at the meeting of the board.

Mr E. Y. Redward, Crown Solicitor ir» the Crown Law Office, terminates hia duties in the department to-morrow after forty years service under the Govern* ment, thirty-eight of which have been in the Crown Law Office and two in the Public Works Department. He has advised the Government in matters of administration of departments and the performance of duties under statutes.

Mr W. Thompson, who for a number of years has been a member of the Palmerston North railway clerical staff, has been transferred on promotion to Newmarket as stationmaster there. He will be replaced by Mr G. Marsh, stationmaster at Whangarei. Mr Thomson wa* well-known in local Rugby circles end is an official of the Western United Flub, '**

and a former member of the Manawafcu Rugby Union.

Wellington Hospital Board yesterday accepted the resignations of Drs Bull and Fulton, house surgeons, and Miss E. P. Tennent, assistant matron. Sister G. 8. Lamp, sister-in-charge nurses* home, has been appointed to assistant-matron (vice Miss Tennent resigned); Sister B. Clark was promoted to sister-in-charge of the nurses* home, and Senior Nurses L. E. Hunt and D. L. Waldie were promoted to sisters on the nursing staff.

Mr H. N. Holmes, who was general secretary of the Wellington Y.M.C.A. from 1904 to 1911. arrives in Wellington to-day as a through passenger by the Aorangi to Australia. ~Mrs Holmes and Master Holmes accompany him. After an extensive Y.M.C.A. experience in America, South Africa, France, and England, Mr Holmes is now executive secretary of the Federal Council of Churches of America. He returns to New Zea T a::;l during May to hold a series of meetings under the auspices of the Y.M.C.A. movement, after which he is planned to take part in tho great Pan Pacific Conference on "Pacific Racial Problems’* at Honolulu in July.

A Press Association message from Palmerston North announces the death of Mr Stephen Robert Lancaster, a wellknown Jersey cattle and Southdown sheep breeder, at the age of 63 years. The late was born at Karori Wellington, in 1562, and was educated at the same place. He received his early training on his fathers farm. CLd removed to the Manawatu district in 1833. He was one of the best-known | stock judges and exhibitors in the Dominion. and one of the founders of the Jersey Breeders’ weil as being president, of the New Zealand Sheenbrceders* Association. It is recorded that, at the Manawatu Agricultural rmd Pastoral Association’s show in 1895 he gained twenty-one first, fourteen second. and nine third prizes. He al.-o had similar successes in other parts of the Dominion. The late Mr Lancaster whs also prominent in civic affairs, and was? a noted sportsman, being for many years nresident of the Manawatu Hunt Club. In 1885 the late Mr Lancaster married a daughter of Mr James Hanna, of Carterton, and ’he is survived by Mrs Lancaster, six sons, and four daughter*
