The increasing agitation among religious and other bodies regarding- toe London slums culminated ,in a private deputation! from the London Municipal Society waiting on Mr Neville Chamberlain, Minister for Ijealtb, withjlrastic -proposals. Speakers affirmed that 184.000 peo-ple-are living in over-crowded,. insanitary areas and 365,000 in dilapidated areas. • Under the present law eight years is required to abolish a slumi and complete new dwellings. Mr Chamberlain, replying to the deputation, foreshadowed prompt legislation.’ , .
