THE WOOL SALES

The January sales have brought some enlightenment, and some reassurance- . Their verdict in,a slight decrease in the 'fine wools, and a strong position for the coarser. The buyers of the latter are Bradford and Continental. From which we may conclude a revival of that part of the great Europeap market which, caters for the wants of people of limited means, who are the great majority of the world. Here we have the evidence of a'. big demand likely to continue for years, being, as it undoubtedly is, the harbinger of the long-expected trade revival. The slight reduction of the finer .wool prices tells the same tale of revival, though the reduction indicates that the needs of the richer people, wearersLof the fashionable stuff, are not so keen' as the other needs, but still' urgent; The next sale will show if the urgency is growing or diminishing. As, the reduction is from most phenomenal prices, and as ft is small, it is fair to expect continuance of high prioes for some time, even if the highest level is not again reached. For all woolgrowers the outlook is good indeed: To the -general puhlio the wool market is show-, ing the arrival of the revival awaiteef so anxiously through the gloomy years of the aftermath of the war.
