LONDON. January 19. The “Daily Chronicle” says that the oolite dug a tunnel through a barricade of rubbish which William Macfarlane had erected in a room occupied by him at Islington. There they found a man, semi-conscious, dying cf starvation and clad in loin cloth. He resembled Taiwan of tho Ape S- . only clue to Macfarlane’s friends is a letter written years ago by a son who is in New Zealand. This was found mixed up with rubbish. Macfarlane paid 3s 6d weekly rent and spent his days in picking up rags, date stones, old iron, bottles and tins in the streets. There w, re tots of rubbish in his room, yet Macfarlane has £ll6 in the Savings Bank besides a number of money-orders, the deeds ot some house property and shares in a music hall. i Whan asked about his relatives Macfarlane muttered-. “I .have none. They are all gone.”
