CHAMPIONSHIP MEETING COUNCIL DECIDES TO OFFER MEETING TO WANGANUI. DISPUTE WITH AUCKLAND. A special meeting ■of the . Council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association was held .last evening to consider the Auckland decision T:o.relinquish the holding of the championship meetings unless the medals for such meetings were obtained lately. It was explained- that- the supplying of championship medals was the lunction of the council-, provided for by the rules, send that hitherto, the council’s right in this mattcr had ;uever. been questioned. - As a matter of fact : 6uch medals have actually been made in Auckland for championships held elsewhere without dissent. The cost of the medals is,a charge against the meeting/ .the profit .of . which is shared' by the council apd .the centre concerned. _ . . Several- communications between -the council and the Auckland Centre unfortunately failed to improve the position, with the result that it has . now , been decided to allocate the meeting to the West Coast Centre, of which I'.Waagenpi' is headquarters. Wanganui has been requested to nX the date as early a a possible and has the option of, either February 14th, 21st, or 28tb. {. _ lb is 27 _yeara_ since the New Zealand championship'' ‘meeting was .held in Wanganui, and it should assist materially in building up the sport. in that district. , . • ( , AUSTRALIANS’ TO»UR. Another matter dealt with at Inst mbit’s meeting wasr an invitation to athletes from Australia, it was decided to dispatch the . following cable: — aiocept .. Parker amd' ' Gtrejhiam (sprinters) wfth II ntton or Hyde at your discretion,, together with two' best cyclists available.. Would welcome five edditiinul athletes if willing to come at their own expense.” It was decided to ask for a guarantee from centres and-clubs desiring a . visit, and that all . profits- from sUclr meetings, after repaying the amount of the guarantee, be divided equally between thp council and tho centre or club holding the meeting.
