NARROW ESCAPE

MOTHER SAVES CHILDREN, - FIRE DESTROYS RESIDENCE. - An eight-roomed, house*at Waihi owned by Mrs Hunter and occupied by Mrs C. Peebles and six children, was demolished' by fire recently, together with tho whole of the contents. The origin of the outbreak is not known. The fire had a strong hold before it was discovered, and it was with no little difficulty and risk to herself that Mrs Peebles got the last of the children out. Owing to the late call the strong high wind, and the fact that only one lead of hose could be used on the main, the brigade could do little. The furniture and effects were insured in the Prudential Office for £2OO.
