The summer meeting of the Auckland Racing Club opened at EUerslie to-diay in showery weather.. Heavy rain fell overnight, and it continued during the morning. However, matters improved as the day Wore on, and there was a very good attendance considering the conditions. OPENING EVENT. Proceedin;«, opened with the Queen’s Plate, in which Passionate. Daddy’s Girl, Turn, Piquant, Gauntlet, and Diamond Moon failed to keep their engagements. Degage, who had the services of H. Gray, was made about £BOO better favourite than Bing the : Bell, with Tanadees and Quiescent next mosrt sought after. When the field had traversed a furlong Son o’ Mine, Gureaform, Tactician, and Pelham were racing in a line. Pelham drew to the front at the six furlong post, and was followed by Bon o’ Mine, Oureaform, Tactician, and Degage. Pelham' led across tilie top with Ring the Bell, Cureaform, Tactician, and Degago next.. Pelham was first into the straight from Ring the Bell with Tactician, DeTanadees, and Saiosi. Ring the Bell was in front at the distance, hut Degage was; soon alongside him, and in. a good finish the latter won by a neck, with Felham a length away third. Biaosi,’ Cureaform. A CLOSE FINISH. i Muscari was the popular fancy for the Robinson Handicap, being entrust-' ad with about £2OO more than Desert Glow, with Cherry Ripe and Ur alia best backed of the others. Quinsilia waa tihe first out with Archibald, Whe-’ timui, Finnote, Desert Glow, and Drclatiqne next. Crossing the top Finnote was te command from Quinsfla, Archibald, Kiiris, Muscari, and 1 Fiery Lad. Finnote was first to turn -for homo with Archibald, Fiery Lad, IVhetrmui, Muecari and 1 Desert Glow next. Gold Jacket, piloted -the field 1 across the top and into the straight where Mnraahi, Gold Light, .Musketoon, Illumination, and Te Kara were most prominent of the others. In the run home Illumination looked the winner at the distance, but Te Kara stayed on better than he, and beat him by three-quarters of a length. Limelight, who was a long way hack for three-quarteTe of the distance, put in a great run in the straight, and go) third, two lengths behind Illumination. Goldl Light, Muraahi, Musketoon, and Far North were the next to finish with Right and Left, Duo, Polonett, and Kalakaua last. AN EASY VICTORY. The Grafton Hurdle Race saw Santiago, Miss Melva, Narrow Neck, and Advent fail to keep their engagements.: Fullford was the first choice, with, Glenotus and Maunga carrying most, money of the others. The favourite failed to negotiate the hurdle when they entered the straight. King Abbey was the pilot -post the stands from CooL Stimulants, Mia Bella, Guianform, Starland, Crown Coin, and Glenotus. 1 Mia Bella ran up to King Abbey along tho back, with Cool Stimulants and' Crown Coin next. The last-named came to grief a little later. Across the. top Mia Bella was in front, and led; around the turn from King Abbey,; Glenotus, and Maunga. In the run 1 home Mia Bella held her own, to win, by two and a half lengths from Gleno-i tus, who beat Maunga by ten lengths! Then came King Abbey, Sea De’il, Star-1 land, and Cool Stimulants. OUTSIDER WINS RAILWAY.

Starmist and Tuahine were the only scratchings for the Railway Handicap, for which the bracket, Pavo and Ballymoy 11.. carried about £450 more than Dan Quin, with Hipo and the bracket, Deluge and Motley, next in request. Fool’s Paradise was the first to show out from Quinette, Dan Quin, and Lucius. Finolli thon rushed to the front, with Quinette, Lucius, Fool’s Paradise. Civility and Hipo next. Finelli and Ballymoy 11. wore the first to turn for home, with Master Doon, Lucius, Deluge, Royal Blood, and Hipo all handy. In the run to the post Master Doon took charge from Hipo, Royal Blood. Pavo, Lucius, and the others, the field being stretched across the course. Fully eight or nine candidates seemed to have a show, but Master Doon. however, held bis own, and won bv half a length from Hipo. who beat Pavo by , two lengths. Royal Blood, Motlov, Broad wood, Tukia, Lucius, .and Dan Quin were among tho next to finish. The winner was tho f-v, day.

Master Mind was fourth, with Abberseldy, Queen Arch, Nastori, and Oreum among the next to finish. SANDSTAR. SCORES WELL. Tho scratching pen was used pretty freely in the Christmas Handicap, with which the day’s sport concluded. It was a great betting race, with Sandstar, Footfall, and Lady Ridicule carrying the moot money. Raceful was the first out, but almost immediately Dazzling Light took charge from Lady Ridicule, Raceful, Gala Day, — Malatour, Surveyor, Footfall, Quest, and Sandstar. Crossing the top, Lady ■ Ridicule was in front, with Gala Day, Dazzling Light, Malatour, and Quest next. Lady Ridicule was the first into the straight from Gala Day. Surveyor, Sandstar, Malatour, Briglft Day. and Footfall. In a great race, Sandstar drew out to win by three-quarters of a length from Bright Day, who beat Raceful by a head. Gala Day was fourth, with Lady Ridicule, .Quest, Football, and Surveyor next.
