HARBOUR BOARD HELPS. £6O GRANT NOW AND MORE XT NECESSARY. The scheme to provide a marine laboratory and aquarium at Island Bay baa received the approval of the Wellington Harbour Board in a very practical manner. Recently Professor Kirk, of Victoria College, who is strongly interested in the project, made an appeal to the board for a contribution, and this was placed before the wharv es and accounts committee, who last night recommended the board to make a donation of £SO this year to the funds of the committee interested in the establishment of the laboratory at Island Bay, and that a further donation of £SO he made during the board’s next financial year if money is still required for the purpose. The chairman explained that the scheme wa« to he part of Victoria College, and it was anticipated that the cost would be about £SOOO. The building would he principally for general research for fisheries. Tbs recommendation was carried.
