Miller, entomologist, Department of Agriculture, who has been on a visit of inspection to the Central Otago, orchards, has returned to Wellington. Mr O: M. Innes, late of Auckland, has .been appointed editor of the “Ashburton Guardian.’’ .He will take over his 'editorial duties at the end of the year. Mr W. T. Irvine, hon. secretary of the Palmerston North Lawn Tennis Club, has been transferred to Whakatane as accountant of the Union Bank of Australia.

Sub-Inspector Kemp has gone to the South Island, wbcie he will spend a three weeks’ vacation. During his absence Senior Detective Cameron will control the local detective office.

Among the visitors to Christchurch are Meosra A. C. Johnston, A. Clayton, M. F. Turner (Wellington), and j- H. Anderson (Wellington), and D.- Foreman, of Feilding.

Mi' A. H. Say, an old Rangioral School boy, has been promoted to-the position or Inspector of Explosives, with headquarters at Calcutta. - Mr Say has for several years held an important position* ■ in the explosives manufacturing department at Aruvankadu, South India.

Reference was made at the meeting of the Harbour Board last night to the/ deaths of Mr Neil McLean, foreman carpenter, and Mr E. J. Glennie, late of the accountant’s staff. Sympathy was expressed with the bereaved relatives. Both were old members of the board’s staff.

Mr Gordon Conrad, general exploitation manager of the -First National Film Producing Company, has arrived in Wellington to make preliminary arrangements for the presentation of the feature film. “The Sea Hawk.” at tho Dc Luxe Theatre at an early date. Mr Conrad, who is accompanied’ by his wife and child, has brought over from Australia his car, a light Citroen sports model of 4-cylinders, 11 horse-power. They came from Auckland to Wellington without mishap in the fast time of IS hours.

Mr Richard Wallwork, of the staff of the Canterbury College School of Art, who has been granted leave to go to Europe next year, had a tribute paid to the work he has done in the past by Mr H. D. Acland, chairman of the Canterbury College Board of Governors, who presided at the prize-giving of the School of Art. Mr Acland said that Mr Wallwork is the mo6t successful art teacher in New Zealand, and he had no doubt that his “look round” at Home would be of great value to the school in the future. The director of the school, in his report, also referred to the work done by Mr Wallwork.
