AMATEUR ATHLETICS

DEWAR SHIELD MEETING. At Athletic Park on Saturday afternoon clubs in the Wellington Centre will compete in the second shield competition of the season. The points are now very close, and individual members are keen to place their respective clubs in better positions. The programme arranged is attractive, and a good attendance of the public is anticipated. Record entries have been received, and especially large fields will be seen in tho 100yds and 220yds, for which forty-eight and forty-five competitors have entered respectively. The meeting of Tracy a®d Kyle in ike 220yds event should provide a keen race. Kyle will also start in the 440yds, a distance in which he is running well at present. In the ICOyds event Jenkins, Leadbetter, aivd Paris will be prominent, and a close finish may be expected in the final. D. Priestley, ’N.Z. 'Varsity champion, will appear in the 880yds and one mile. Other well-known athletes competing .include Dunbar, Munro, and Brown in the field events, gnd Flett and Harrison- iu the cycle events. WAIRARAPA CALEDONIAN SOCIETY. The annual sports will be held in Masterton on New Year's Day. A good programme has been arranged. This includes piping, dancing, athletic and cycling events. Entries definitely close on Thursday, December 18th, with the secretary (Mr R. H. Williams), Box 40, Masterton.
