SPORTS AT BASIN RESERVE LARGE GATHERING AND BIG PROGRAMME t)F 'EVENTS. CONCLUSION MARRED BY RAIN. ■ Tlift fifth annual championship sports meeting was’ hold yesterday by th« Wellington Public Schools Amateur Athletic. Association on the Basin Reserve, lhe weather -was dull and threatening during the morning, and steady rain set an about half-past 2* making conditions unploasant for the concluding stages of the meeting*, but all the events ivere nevertheless got off. At these annual gatherings, representatives from all' the primary schools in the Wellington and suburban districts compete against one another, and the rivalry is naturally of the keenest, not cinlv amongst the youngsters, but among their teachers, and sometimes, among their parents. The Reserve presented a most animated scene during the day, crowded as it was with hundreds end hundreds of noisy school-children, but there was a definite order in. the seeming chaos, and the lengthy programme was completed to the minute. Mr W. Binet Brown was hen. secretary, Mr P. M. Jackson treasurer, end Mr J A 0. Stephens press steward. Amateur athletic officials assisting were Messrs T W. Leslie and J. O Shillivai(shrrters). T.
