Mr J. M'Combs, M.P., forLyttelton, is visiting Wellington.

Mr Henry Jessup, Land Officer in the* Railways Department Head- Office, died suddenly at his-residence, 121, Washington avenue, Brooklyn, aged 51 years. The late Mr Jeesup, who was of a quiet, retiring disposition, but highly esteemed by all who knew him, joined the railway service as a cadet at Wellington in 1888. In 1910 he Whs transferred to' Wanganui, and five years later was appointed chief clerk in the District Engineer’s Office, Wanganui. A similar appointment followed in Wellington in 1920, and on May Bth of this year he was promoted to chief, . .clerk, in the maintenance branch. On Aiigust Ist he was appointed to the position of Railway Land'Officer. The late Mr Jessup was an enthusiastic bowler, and Was a mem- , ber of the Wellington Bowling Club. He was.also a prominent chess player, and belonged to the Wellington' Chess Club. He is survived by a. widow and three children. As a mark of respect to his memory, the flag at the Wellington Bowling Olub’s clubhouse was Sewn at half-mast yesterday.In connection with the “annual break-up” of St. Patrick’s College on Tuesday afternoon, great credit is due to Mr Paul Cullen, .a student of the college, who is wholly. responsible for the musical programme submitted. Hehas! during the year, done splendid work with the college orchestra, of which he is conductor and originator. Archbishop Redwood, a violinist of past years, spoke truly when he congratulated the boys, and said it was the finest orchestra he had heard inside the college.
