AGAINST RATS
HEALTH DEPARTMENTS ACTIVITY. ■ “NO CAUSE FOR ALARM”’ Dr. T. MoKibbin (Director of Hygiene) stated yesterday that 'ho medical officers ot. health throughout New Zealand are taking every precaution to pi-event the introduction of plaghe worn Los Angeles by the migration of rata on overseas' vessels. Port health officers have been asked to renew their activities in regard to thb prevention' of ship rats getting ashore -and the destruction of rata in and about wharves and wharf sheds.; -while the civic authorities in port towns have also been reminded by .the medical . officers of health that it is advisable to take steps to reduce rats, steadily. “There is no cause for alarm,” added Dr. MoKibbin, “but these measures Bje aimed at control of the rat population and the prevention of any possible rat reaching Now Zealand from the plague-stricken areas.”
