A lihk with the pioneer days of tlft Auckland province fids been broken by the death of Mr ,Jd£n Kenny at Devoidport, at the age of 82. Mt Kenny, who arrived at Auckland in 1864, in the Star of India, played his part 'in the Maori war'in the First , and Fourth Waikato Regiments, serving in the Waikato and at ( At* the close of the war he ejnjjarked upon farming hear Hamilton,* and for 42 years he followed an agricultural calling.- Hie last 18 years of his life were spent >in retirement at Devonpart, where he had a large circles of friends. He in survived by a widow, four sons, and four daughters.
Dr Leslie _ Averin, second son of Bishop Averill, has advised his parents by. cable that he has. passed his examination for the degree of M.D. Dr Averill was educated at Christ’s College, Christchurch, and at the'Auckland University' College. He held a commission with the New Zealand forces during the war, was wounded and awarded the Military Cross. After over two years of' service ho f commenced studies in Edinburgh, where he was captain of the university, football team for two years. He had 18 months’ hospital experience in England and Scotland, and completed his studies in Edinburgh. He is now studying for his fellowship, and expects to return to New Zealand about the middle of next year, after an absence of seven years. '* V -
