Above /the pines, the lark sings clear, And'’neath the. branches wide, , The thrush's haunting ..song makes glad The hearts on. that fair hillside. And here beneath the Southern- Cross, f In the glory of the yoar, , , Up from the belfries in-the town--The Christinas, hell we-hear. ~ And to our minds come legends old, Of hillsides, fat away; Where shepherds watched' -a ■ wondrous star, ' At the dawn of a Ghristmaa-.Day,: And flowers, in their' Winter, sleep. Burst into blooins, so fair; Anti in the silver star-lit night Birds, sang a carol rare. And a gentle Mother with v eyes aglow, To her' babe, so softly sings, The.'babe;vfor ever :tpr be known - -v As Christ, the King of Kings} ' ' And‘journeying by pathways steep', ' ; Will come the Wise Men three; ' : With offerings fair and perfumes rare, Tri greet the Mystery. ■ - ’ And, the shepherds’ eyes, with wonder / - fill, ■ . - / As they follow that starry “sign," • As they, load their sheep on the pathways' k creep , v ■.
