KHANDALLAH
PROGRESSIVE ’ SUBURB SOON TO. HAVE ALL CITY, AD. . .VANTAGES Khandallah was formerly part of the Borough of Onslow, add was merged into the , city' of Wellington in after having been a borough for 25 years. One of the main reasons, for amalgamation' was to reap the benefit of ihe city water supply. This should be an accomplished'fact in .the course of another year,'' for the pipes have been, laid in practically all of the streets, the reservoir is ready to take the water when available, and when the pipe line from Wainui to Karori is past the point at Kaiwarra the pipe will be tapped there, hnd will supply Khandallah, Ngaio, and JoEnsonvillo. The drainage scheme ie also under way, and should be completed some few months after the wafer , supply' is through. Khandallah has a Town Hall, with accommodation for 850 people, a swimming pool at' .the foot of the hills into which t.he water was turned for the first , time a few days ago, and' which is fed by the stream. The district has about 150 acres of superb native buslij said, by reason of its,, magnificent feme, to exceed -in beauty that of Day’s Bay. It is known as Onslow Park, and was originally purchased as a catchment area. It affords a beautiful view, across Cook Strait. The population in 1921 was 2191, but has grown considerably since then. The school, which has been'extended, occupies four acres, and has a roll of 230 children'. Electricity has long been in use at Khandallah, and the Gas Company is at present'making inquiries as to possible consumption With a view, to extending the gas mains to the suburb. .
