The C.G.M.M steamer Canadian Challenger leaves Auckland to-day for Australian ports to complete her discharge of Montreal cargo. CANADIAN CRUISER. • Advice -hae been received by the Canadian - Government Marine that the steamer Canadian Cruiser, which left Napier on August 26th for New York, Boston and Montreal, arrived at the latter port on October 11th. The intercolonial steamer Moeraki, which left Wellington last Saturday for Melbourne, is due there to-morrow. She leaves again on October 20th for Wellington direct, where she is due on October 25th, and will sail the following Monday for Melbourne via Lyttelton, Dunedin and Bluff. ULIMAROA FROM SYDNEY. The intercolonial steamer Ulimaroa is. according to a wireless message received, arriving in the stream at 7 a.m. to-day. After pratique has been granted she will berth at Queen's wharf No. 16 to land passengers, mails and cargo. She sails on the return voyage at noon on Friday., WAIKAWA'S MOVEMENTS. The trans-Pacific cargo steamer Waikawa left Vancouver on October 12th for Powell River, Union Bay. and San Francisco to complete her loading for New Zealand ports. She is expected to clear San Francisco about October 23rd for Napier. TAINUI LEFT BALBOA. En route from Southampton to New Zealand the Shaw. Savill and Albion liner Taiuui cleared Balboa on October 12th for Suva, where she is due on October 31st. From Suva she is due at Auckland on November 6th. CANADIAN CHALLENGER ARRIVES. The Canadian Government steamer Canadian Challenger, 5439 tons, arrived at Auckland from Montreal on Sunday afternoon. The vessel left Montreal on August 30th and arrived at Colon cn September 12th. She bunkered fuel oil at Balboa and left there in the evening of September 13th. Until Wednesday she met with favourable weather, l»ut then ran into, a north-westerly and westerly gale, accompanied by heavy seas. These boisterous conditions continued almost until she arrived in the harbour and delayed her considerably. She vill .discharge the Auckland portion b«*r cargo of Canadian general merchandise, of which the rate of exchange is 4.49 dollars, and arrangements are that she will be dispatohed to-day for Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide to complete discharge. She will then return to New Zealand to load for New York. Boston, and Halifax, sailing finally trom this port toward the end of next month. Captain G. DYNAMO BREAKDOWN. Two breakdowns bave occurred to the Mararoa's dynamo lately. The departure of the vessel from Wellington on Saturday night foj Lyttelton was delayed pending minor repairs to the dynamo and owing to its failure on Friday night the trip from Lyttelton to Wellington was made under oiMighting. Captain Sewell states that repairs have been effected, and the dynamo is now running snloofchly. . ORARFS PROGRAMME. In continuation of her voyage # from Liverpool, the Orari, now discharging at Lyttelton under of the Federal S.N. Company, tb, to leave there on Thursday to complete discharge of her Dunedin cargo and also load. She then returns to Lyttelton to load, and afterwards goes on to New Plymouth to put out the remainder of her cargo and -oad. The Orari will load also at Wanganui, Wellington, and Auckland, and is to sail from flie latter port on November 13th for New York, Boston. London, and West of England ports. THE HERTFORD. Mr Wallis advises that the Federal S.N. Co. steamer Hertford, at present discharging Liverpool cargo at Wellington, will not leave here till October 22nd for Lyttelton and Dunedin. She is en route from Alexandria to Zealand. LECTURE AT MARINE ENGINEERS INSTITUTE. A most interesting and instructive lecture on high tension magneto, was delivered at the Marine Engineers lnstitne last evening by Mr L. Ashworth, expert for Messrs Robt. Bosch, Ltd., Melbourne, before a large and enthusiastic audience of engineers and apprentices. At the dose of the lecture a number ot auestions were asked, and the points concerned most carefully explained. A hearty vote of thanks, proposed by Mr T. Ronayne, late general manager of the New Zealand Railways, was carried unanimously. Mr A. Basire carried out the duties of chairman.
