NATIVE BOY DROWNED
RETURNING FROM SCHOOL. Per Press Association. WHAKATANE, October 17. A native boy, Karauua Hautans, about six years of age, was drowned in th 6 Waimana river beyond Tahora station last evening. The body was recovered by natives this morning. The lad had to cross the river in order to reach home, and his father usually met him on horseback after schael. Last night the father was a little late :n reaching the river, and it is surmised that the lad tried to cross the waterway by himself, with the result that he got into difficulties in the swift current and was drowned.
