SCOTTISH CLUB. The Scottish Harriers dub held thetl usual weekly run at Lyall Bay, when, the consolation handicap was contested. A large number of members and club supporters were present, and a good race was witnessed. The trial, which was the usual three mile course, was laid by Messrs G. Zander, W. Clark* and E. D. Trail* The run new were dispatched by Mm Bollons. The limit man, N. W. Holland (ISOsec), led for the first half mile along the beach* but was displaced by W. Newman (lOOsec) and J. little (120sec> in tbe sandhills. Newman, however, lost the trail at the golf house, and H. W. Waring (6Gsec) ran into the lear, and maintaining Lis advantage ran home an easy winner from B. Woodcock (scratch) by about 100 yards. Both these competitors ran good races, and they are to be congratulated on their performance. E. P, Whitehouse, from 15sec, also ran well, and finished third, while J. Little was fourth. After the race the club members and visitors were entertained by Mr IV. J. Walter, a vice-president of the club, at afternoon tea. Mr L. F. Dawkins, the club captain of the Scottish Club, thanked Mr Waiter for hi* kindness, and n’so referred to the fact that Mr Walter was one of the keenest supporters of the club, rarely missing a run. Mr Dawkins ‘hen called on those present to give three hearty cheers for Mr Walter. Mr Ballantyne, eenr., also spoke, and endorsed Mx Dawkinses remarks. Mr Walter, in replying, said that he waa always pleased to be of any assistance to the mub. He congratulated Mr Waring on bis meritorious win, and announced that he would be pleased to donate a trophy for the race. The following members were picked to represent the club in the W. H. Bennett memorial road race next Saturday:— Messrs F. B. Silver, G. Zander, B. Woodcock, H. W. Waring, W. Clark, J. W. Payton, and E. IX Trail. Mr Hall, a prominent member of the club t was unable to attend the run owing to a'bereavement in his family, and the club members offer him their deepest sympathy.
