YESTERDAY'S SITTING. POLICE PROSECUTIONS. Mr E. Page, S.H., dealt with the following cases in the Magistrate's Cburt yesterday:— A SAD CASE. A young woman named Ena Latimer Gray, aged 18 years, appeared on a charge of being idle and disorderly. The magistrate, in sentencing her to 12 months’ reformative detention, said that the case was a most unfortunate one, and thatdetention was in the girl's own interests. Graham Sydney Bolland, charged with stealing five tins of tobacco to the total value of 8s 9d, was ordered to be sent to Roto Boa Island for a period of twelTe months. It was stated that Bolland was addicted to drink, and it was while under its influence that he committed the thefts. Patrick Callahan, with one previous conviction for drunkenness, was fined lbs. A prohibition order was issued against him, to which the man gave his consent. THEFT CHARGES. A remand until the 17th was granted Henry Harris Baber Tunnicliffe, 31, a steward, who was charged with stealing jewellery from Mary Catherine Littlewood to the value of £ls; ladies* clothing and jewellery from Minnie Lee to Uie value of £lB 15s; field glasses and leather case from Constance Eberlet; and omitting to account for £4 10s 6d to the Stewart Timber, Glass and Hardware Co. Bail was fixed in one surety of £IBO or two <if £75. INSURANCE AGENT'S FALL "An unfortunate case of fraud by ■ man with no previous criminal record,” was the description given by Mr B. R. Scott, who appeared for Ernest Alfred Osmond, 50, an insurance agent, who was charged on four occasions of uttering valueless cheques. The magistrate «n----sidered the report of the probation officer favourable, and ordered the accused to two years probation. OTHER CASES.
