LIQUOR IN KING COUNTRY

ANGLICAN CHURCH PROTEST. Per Eot- association NAPIER, September 12. The Waiapu Diocesan Synod, tonight, unanimously carried the following resolution: "That this synod strongly protests against attempts being made to induce the Government to break the solemn covenant that was entered into with the Maori people in the King Country four years ago, when the Natives of that area freely gave all the land required for the construction of the railways and roads on condition that the Government made a provision that no liquor should be allowed to be sold in that area; such coptract the Government is bound in honour to observe. This synod further urges that more effective measures be taken than have hitherto been used to secure the enforcement of the pledge that has been repeatedly given by the Government, that the original agreement shall be maintained.”
